The height of summer saw the birth of Misunderstood, the lead track for Route 94’s EP, which was released on Leftroom Records. Rowan Jones is the young producer behind the work, with a pseudonym born out of the stretch of road between Chicago and Detroit, arguably possessing the right to claim the birth of house and techno, respectively.
The combination of those territories is evident. Misunderstood has an uneasy melodic hook running throughout, backed by big-room house percussion. Again, there’s a real sense of foreboding with the undercurrent of low piano stabs that emerge half way through the track. A final 4/4 house crescendo has both the synergy of piano and that eerie, addictive melody to create a track that doesn’t leave the mind all too quickly.
